A viral video creatively imagines what Spider-Man’s routine might look like under the current isolation conditions brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. In response to the outbreak of COVID-19, countries worldwide have implemented different lockdown policies, closing most businesses and encouraging citizens to only leave their homes for essential trips. These measures have effectively halted the movie industry, with theaters closed and productions suspended. As a result, practically all upcoming movies have delayed their release dates, including several upcoming Spider-Man features.

Morbius, the next film in Sony’s Universe of Marvel Charactersis moving from its July 2020 release date to March 2021. Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage is also moving, pushing back from October 2020 to June 2021. Both the untitled Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 are also delayed, with Tom Holland’s next solo Spider-Man movie now arriving in November 2021 and the Spider-Verse sequel pushed back to Fall 2022. Clearly, it’ll be some time before any Spider-Man or Spidey-adjacent adventures will be seen on the big screen. In which case, in the meantime, it may be worth checking out these new fan-created shorts recreating a day in the life of Spider-Man in quarantine.

The series of videos is called Quarantine Spider-Man and they come to us via Tom Jauncey, a travel photographer and filmmaker who (according to his Instagram profile) was “bit by a spider during quarantine” and now “something weird is happening.” It’s certainly something weird but it’s also pretty cool. The video shorts offer a glimpse at what Spider-Man’s life might be if he was also stuck in at home for five weeks. The first video also includes a few homages to Into the Spider-Verse, with this Spider-Man sharing Peter B. Parker’s coping method of crying in the shower and a soundtrack of Post Malone’s “Sunflower”. Jauncey has included these few Quarantine Spider-Man videos (below) on his Instagram, but the majority will be made available on his TikTok.

Introducing your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man 🕷. I’ve been pretty quiet on Social Media during this quarantine. It’s been head down, work, work, work for the last 5 weeks. Whilst I’ve got a lot done I’ve found it hard to disconnect. Until this past weekend I hadn’t seen anyone I knew in-person and my two greatest passions; travel & creating content are currently on pause. I started reflecting on what inspires me and makes me happy and thought it would be fun to challenge myself to get creative while at home and film something original. Something that would make me laugh, something I would have fun doing and hopefully something that would inspire you guys too. What could I do while quarantined that would be unique was the question?! I kept thinking about who would be so out of their comfort zone stuck at home all this time and it suddenly hit me…Spider-Man. For those that know me, when I have an idea I go so big on executing that idea. I’m really driven by doing things differently. This is one of 30 videos I’ve already made of Spider-Man living his day to day Quarantine life. I’ve had so much fun executing it. It’s re-energized me, given me a creative outlet and means to switch off. Huge thank you to the amazing @jerometraveller who helped me film this. Together we sketched out over 100 concepts, switched between who played Spidey and managed to execute this all in a weekend. Shout out to @loganstrongarms too who helped with the web effects. Just wait for some of the next visuals! I wanted to put this intro video on IG but for the rest of the content you’ll find it on my TikTok: @TomJauncey. I’ve fallen in love with the platform as its pushing creativity to another level. All you need is your phone and some good ideas 👍🏽. Would love to know what you guys think of this and feel free to follow the daily videos dropping on TikTok. 🕷 (🎶: “Sunflower” by @postmalone) #SpiderMan #spidey #spiderverse #cosplay #superheroes #peterparker

The pandemic may have halted pretty much everything, but creatives are continuing to find new outlets. Not only are fans creating some really cool art and fun videos, but professionals are having to get clever about delivering their content. Saturday Night Live, for example, has since aired two At Home editions of the show, with cast members filming segments from the safety of their homes and holding skits over video calls. Parks and Recreation also recently aired a new special that was filmed remotely, and late night talk shows have been broadcasting from their hosts’ homes for weeks. It’s an odd time, but entertainers are finding ways to adapt. Spider-Man is also adapting, and though fans will have to wait a little longer before the adventures continue on the big screen, in the meantime, there are these fun shorts of Spidey going through the same daily struggles as the rest of us.
