Disney’s reboot of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is reportedly moving forward, and it looks like it already may have found its lead.

According to Daniel Richtman, Disney is looking to cast Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Endgame star Karen Gillan in the untitled sixth film in the Pirates saga. However, it is unclear if any formal talks between the two parties have taken place, as another rumor has the studio looking to cast a woman of color for the lead.

Whoever ends up starring in the film, one thing is for certain. Johnny Depp will not be returning to the franchise, reportedly saving Disney $90 million.

Talks of a sixth Pirates film began as early as 2010. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were eyed to write the script in 2018, but the two dropped out in February 2019. Later that year, Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin signed on to write the script. Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman are attached to produce, but a director has not been named.

The latest Pirates film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, opened in 2017. It grossed $794 million worldwide but was the second-lowest grossing film in the franchise behind The Curse of the Black Pearl.
