A new piece of fan art depicts how Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could look if he merged with the Venom symbiote. The last time the two characters crossed paths was in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, when it was released in 2007. The symbiote’s introduction was met with a poor response from critics and fans, despite the film grossing an impressive $894 million worldwide. In fact, the character’s co-creator, Todd McFarlane, wasn’t happy with Spider-Man 3’s Venom either.
In Spider-Man 3, Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker is exposed to the Venom symbiote, bringing out his darker side and giving his Spider-Man suit a makeover in the process. However, Peter realizes the effect the suit is having on him, leading him to separate from the entity, which passes on to Topher Grace’s Eddie Brock in the film. The film’s interpretation of the character received a litany of backlash, leading Venom producer Avi Arad to take some of the blame, stating it was his idea to place the character in the third installment. Even Grace, who played the film’s ultimate version of the character, was surprised he was chosen for the part.
Artist Yadvender Singh Rana has posted a new piece on his Instagram showcasing how Holland’s Spider-Man would look if merged with the Venom symbiote. The image show’s Holland’s Peter Parker sporting a black suit, tearing through some webs, most of his face showing through the mask. The suit has a black and white finish, looking entirely different from Spider-Man’s usual attire. The full image is below.
Ever since Venom was released in 2018, fans have been speculating when Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock would cross paths with Spider-Man. The pieces have begun to be put in place after both Venom and Morbius confirmed to take place in the MCU. Holland has been rumored to make an appearance in Venom: Let There Be Carnage and director Venom Ruben Fleischer has said that the two characters will eventually meet. However, filmmaker Andy Serkis is directing the sequel, which is set to hit theaters next summer after being delayed. Even Hardy has teased Venom meeting Spider-Man in order to build anticipation.
It’s hard not to be a little conflicted about the two characters crossing paths once more after the lackluster Spider-Man 3. The Venom character felt like an afterthought in the film, not only portrayed poorly by a wildly miscast Grace, but feeling extraneous given the film’s overabundance of villains. However, the blending of these two characters is full of tremendous potential, especially since Hardy and Holland are perfectly suited for their respective characters. This piece of fan art should only get fans more excited about a crossover between the two characters and it’s hard to blame them. However, Hardy’s Eddie Brock could use some more development before this happens so that the eventual conflict between his character and Holland’s feels earned and emotionally engaging. Regardless, fans will have to continue to wait in order to see when Spider-Man will finally meet one of his most infamous enemies, Venom.
